Netanyahu – Obstacle to Peace!

Carter: Netanyahu speech created new obstacles to peace.

A speech in which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared support for limited Palestinian statehood created new obstacles to peace, former United States president Jimmy Carter told Israeli lawmakers on Monday.

“In my opinion, Netanyahu brought up several obstacles to peace in his speech that others before him have not placed,” Carter told the Knesset Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee.

“He insists on settlement expansion, demands that the Palestinians recognize Israel as a Jewish state even though 20% of Israel’s citizens are not Jews,” the former US president said. ….

Palestinians ‘treated like ‘animals’: Jimmy Carter.

GAZA CITY (AFP) — Former US president Jimmy Carter on Tuesday denounced the deprivations facing Palestinians in Gaza as unique in history, asserting that they are being treated “like animals.”

“Tragically, the international community too often ignores the cries for help and the citizens of Palestine are treated more like animals than like human beings,” he said as he toured the war-torn, blockaded Gaza Strip.

“The starving of 1.5 million human beings of the necessities of life — never before in history has a large community like this been savaged by bombs and missiles and then denied the means to repair itself,” Carter said at a UN school graduation ceremony in Gaza City. …

“I have to hold back tears when I see the deliberate destruction that has been wracked against your people,” he said earlier at a destroyed American school, decrying the fact that the school was “deliberately destroyed by bombs from F16s made in my country.”

“I feel partially responsible for this as must all Americans and Israelis.” …

… In his book, Palestine: Peace, Not Apartheid, Jimmy Carter wrote:

“There are two interrelated obstacles to permanent peace in the Middle East:

“1. Some Israelis believe they have the right to confiscate and colonize Palestinian land and try to justify the sustained subjugation and persecution of increasingly hopeless and aggravated Palestinians; and

“2. Some Palestinians react by honoring suicide bombers as martyrs to be rewarded in heaven and consider the killing of Israelis as victories.”

What I have against the situation in Israel is that they got possession of the land illegally. It was given to them by the U.N., who did not own it to give to them.

Then they made it into a JEWISH state, with all the implications that has turned the situation into what it is today.

I am particularly upset because I would think that after the holocaust the Jews would be more sympathetic to others’ plight, but instead they seem to have turned into mini-Nazis themselves, sort of like the world owes them their own land because everyone mistreats them.

Lieberman to Clinton: Israel won’t freeze settlements.

U.S. ups pressure on Israel to end Gaza blockade.

The United States has stepped up pressure on Israel regarding the Gaza Strip: Three weeks ago it sent Jerusalem a diplomatic note officially protesting Gaza policy and demanding a more liberal opening of the border crossings to facilitate reconstruction. …

The United States made clear that it is dissatisfied with this Israeli policy and wants Jerusalem to reevaluate its stance. “Until you change this, it will be impossible to progress,” a source quoted the American officials as saying. …

The increasingly aggressive and egregious measures that Israel’s occupation takes against the Palestinian civilian population are beginning to threaten, on an unprecedented scale, both Israel’s democracy and its international support. And this is no longer a conversation just among ourselves. Truths are being belatedly spoken to all sides where it matters most – in Washington. Israel now has a friend in the White House who is willing to hold a mirror up to these hard realities of political power. …

VIDEO: Border Police upload footage of their abuse of Palestinians to YouTube.

Border Policemen have filmed themselves abusing and humiliating Palestinians in videos they have posted on YouTube over the past year.

In one clip uploaded to the video sharing website an Arab youth is shown in arid terrain, slapping himself, while a voice is heard instructing him to say “I love you, Border Police,” and “I will f**k you, Palestine,” in Arabic. The victim is forced to respond to everything he is ordered to do, to the raucous laughter of the cameraman and his friends, all Border Policemen. …
