A report by the

Israeli Violations of Human Rights in the Occupied Arab Territories. World Peace Council Presented by Felicia Langer.

Germany honors anti-Zionist Israeli Felicia Langer

Felicia Langer was born in a Jewish family in 1930 in the Polish city of Tarnow and moved to Israel with her family in 1950.

From early on, she found the Zionism-inspired discrimination against the native Arabs of what used to be the British Mandate of Palestine, deeply offensive and unjust.

Having trained as a lawyer, she dedicated her life to helping the oppressed and dispossessed Arabs in Israeli courts, especially in cases of land confiscation, house demolition, deportation, tortures, denial of documents and other injustices.

.. Langer has repeatedly described Israel as “the apartheid of the present” and the officials in the government as “war criminals” for their countless attacks against Palestinians.

US Pension Funds to Israel – Guaranteed by US Govt

July 15, 2009

US Pension Funds invested in Israel – Guaranteed by US Government.

California pension fund reveals vital info on Israeli VCs

… The California state employees pension fund CalPERS issued an investment report over the weekend after repeated demands from members and the press, and the report offered a first look at the usually secret investment reports of private Israeli venture capital funds in which CalPERS is invested.

The report is based on fund managers’ reports through September 30, 2002. Fund managers guard the confidentiality of the figures zealously, some, apparently for good reason. …

American pension funds look to Israel for investment.

… Among the participants in the delegation were: Alan Hevesi, Comptroller for New York state; Massacussetts State Treasurer Tim Cahill, Daniel Kurtzer, former US ambassador to Israel; as well as heads of CalPers, (California Public Employees Retirement System) CalSTRS, (California State Teachers? Retirement System), Pennsylvania Public Employees, Virginia Retirement System, and Stanford Management Co.

The visit was initiated by the World Pension Forum (WPF), which provides a forum for discussion and educational opportunities for the senior members of US pension funds.

“The WPF is sort of a governing body of state pension funds – they hold conference four times a year and provide educational tools for the state pension funds,” explained Applbaum, who has extensive business dealings in Israel. …^l1353&enPage=BlankPage&enDisplay=view&enDispWhat=object&enVersion=0&enZone=Culture&

>>> Note: Most of these funds appear to be managed by persons loyal to Israel.

… At Berkeley, the hot topic was a bill in the California state legislature to permit state employees’ and state teachers’ pension funds to invest in Israeli bonds guaranteed by the U.S. government. At that point the bill had been passed by the California State Assembly, and the Senate was expected to take up the issue sometime in September. It is only one part of an effort by the government of Israel’s lobby in the United States to move some of the ever-increasing aid to Israel out of the federal budget, where it is becoming a real issue, into investments in Israel bonds by the huge state government pension funds. By turning such funds, from many different U.S. states and cities, into a major source of aid to Israel, its U. S. Lobby hopes to defuse a potentially explosive issue. …

Whether or not this effort will succeed will depend on the amount the American public learns about the purchase of Israeli bonds by the widely scattered pension funds. Already, some 12 states have authorized this new means of financing Israeli deficits, which are mounting and are no more likely to be repaid than Israel’s direct debts to the U.S. government. (Israel has never repaid a loan from the U.S. government. All, eventually, have been forgiven by the U.S. Congress.)

Since in the end these bonds issued by Israel will be the responsibility of the American government if Israel is unable to repay them, it makes little difference whether the aid to Israel is voted by Congress or authorized by the state legislatures, which control state pension funds. Either way, U.S. taxpayers ultimately will foot the bill. …

No other country has such access to U.S. pension funds, and Israel is hardly the best risk.

Japanese, German or other bonds from industrialized nations have had far better in vestment ratings. But the key to Israeli access to the funds has been that these formerly extremely risky Israeli bonds now are guaranteed by the U.S. government. No U.S. state or municipal bonds carry such U.S. government guarantees, of course.

The Israel Project’s Secret Hasbara Handbook Exposed

Defending the indefensible settlements.

Barack Obama sees the settlements in this light, which is why he has made a full freeze a centerpiece of his policy. Generally, congressional Democrats, even those known to side with the Israel lobby in the past, have adopted the administration’s position on the issue. … for Peace Now’s Ori Nir places the issue in a broader context, also contradicting the TIP claim. “American Jews increasingly realize that settlements undermine Israel’s ability to survive, long term, as a democratic Jewish state and that they undermine America’s national security interest in a stable, peaceful Middle East,” he told Bloomfield.

$48.8 billion Foreign Aid – Most to Israel

July 10, 2009

House passes foreign aid package, July 10, 2009. (HR3081 – Costing $48.8 Billion)

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The U.S. House of Representatives approved foreign funding that included aid packages for Israel and the Palestinians.

Israel won $2.775 billion when the funds approved in the bill 2010 appropriations bill passed Thursday are added to those approved in an earlier supplemental funding bill, consistent with the memorandum of understanding signed two years ago that guarantees Israel $30 billion in defense assistance over 10 years. Israel also was allotted $25 million in refugee settlement assistance, the only remnant of U.S. assistance to Israel’s domestic economy.

Also approved was over $500 million in assistance for the Palestinians, including up to $150 million that may be transferred directly to the Palestinian Authority and $100 million that will go to training P.A. security forces.

Egyptian and Jordanian funding also remained consistent: $1.3 billion in Egyptian defense assistance and $250 million in assistance for the Egyptian economy; and $300 million in defense assistance for Jordan as well as $363 million in economic assistance.

The bill also would keep the U.S. Import-Expert bank from guaranteeing companies that have significant stakes in Iran’s energy sector. The American Israel Public Affairs Committee praised the bill’s passage. …

The overall $48.8 billion bill passed 318-106

The U.S. Senate is considering a similar bill; subsequent to its passage, both bills must be reconciled, subject to new votes and then sent to President Obama for his approval.

Israel preparing War on Iran?

Israel and US preparing for war with Iran?

Israel appears to be preparing for the greatest military exercise in the history of the Jewish state, with Iran being a potential target.

The exercise is expected to take place on June 2 and will involve testing the US-Israeli developed missile defense system ‘Arrow’, intended to deter missile attacks.

An Israeli strike on approximately one dozen targets in Iran could come within hours of receiving orders, according to an Israeli defense official quoted in the Times.

According to the paper’s source the Israeli military is awaiting the final go-ahead by the country’s new government headed by Benjamin Netanyahu.

Biden: U.S. won’t stop Israeli strike on Iran.

U.S. Vice President Joe Biden said on Sunday that the Obama administration would not stand in Israel’s way should the latter chooses to take military action to eliminate Iran’s nuclear threat.

Israel has the right to determine its own course of action with regard to the Iranian nuclear threat regardless of what the Obama administration chooses to do, Biden told ABC reporter George Stephanopoulos. …

On Friday, defense sources reported that an Israeli submarine had sailed the Suez Canal to the Red Sea last month, describing the unusual maneuver as a show of strategic reach in the face of Iran.
Israel has long kept its three Dolphin-class submarines, which are widely assumed to carry nuclear missiles, away from Suez so as not to expose them to the gaze of Egyptian harbormasters.

The Egyptian official said Saturday that Cairo did not, nor will it in the future, offer Israel logistic assistance in its efforts to attack Iran …

Each German-made Dolphin has 10 torpedo tubes, four of them widened at Israel’s request – to accommodate, some independent analysts believe, nuclear-tipped cruise missiles. But there have been questions about whether these would have the 1,500-km (1,000-mile) range needed to hit Iran from the Mediterranean.

Israel plans to acquire two more Dolphins early next decade. Naval analysts say this could allow it to set up a rotation whereby some of the submarines patrol distant shores while others secure the Israeli coast or dock to undergo maintenance. …

Israel denies Saudis plan to let IDF use airspace for Iran strike. Arabia has indicated to Israel that it would not protest use of its airspace by Israeli fighter jets in the event the government resolves to launch a military assault against Iran, according to a report which appeared in the British newspaper The Sunday Times.

The Prime Minister’s office issued a statement in response Sunday morning, saying that “the Sunday Times report is fundamentally false and completely baseless.”

According to The Sunday Times, Mossad chief Meir Dagan held secret meetings with Saudi officials, who gave their tacit approval to Israel’s use of the kingdom’s airspace.
