10% of US Congress travels to Israel to get “Educated” and “Funded”.

The names of the 56 US congressmen who traveled to Israel this month for “educational purposes’” are under wraps.  – I have tried my ‘darndest‘ to find them.  —

No other country receives such a massive entourage from the US Congress.   —  Should the voters not know what’s going on?

Branded as ‘educational,’ these trips offer Israeli propagandists an opportunity to expose members of Congress to only their side of the story ….

The pro-Israel lobby does most of its work without publicity. But every member of Congress and every would-be candidate for Congress comes to quickly understand a basic lesson. Money needed to run for office can come with great ease from supporters of Israel, provided that the candidate makes certain promises, in writing, to vote favorably on issues considered important to Israel. What drives much of congressional support for Israel is fear — fear that the pro-Israel lobby will either withhold campaign contributions or give money to one’s opponent.

Massive funding of political candidates who support Israel’s agenda is pervasive in most western democracies. Once in office, the winners steer large benefits from the public coffers towards Israel, often skillfully camouflaged from public scrutiny.

Prime Minister Ehud Olmert called Israel’s “visible benefits only the tip of the iceberg”. Our media lack the backbone to investigate this phenomenon, fearful of being hounded for anti-Semitism.

Israel’s cost of funding our elections seems miniscule compared to the largesse Israel derives from governments. – It is called leverage.

The elected office holder benefits, — Israel benefits — the uninformed citizen gets shafted.

Israel is unique in one respect: It extracts tributes from nearly all western democracies. No other country can compare. Israel thinks it is entitled to such reparations because it sees itself as a victim of history. It fails to take into account that the present generation is not guilty of any crimes, and yet it is expected to pay. –

Politicians who frequently travel to Israel are suspect of being facilitators in this duplicity. “Educating” and “Funding” them undermines the spirit of a democracy because it favors dual-loyalists.

Israel has constructed a finely-tuned machinery to promote its goals from shadowy cloak rooms. – It avoids transparency.

I note that none of our media publish the fact that 10% of our Congress members are visiting Israel this month to be “educated” and “funded for re-election”.

Voters would like to know their names. – Why the camouflage???

Huckabee also in Israel – to be “educated’ and “funded”.

Former US presidential candidate Mike Huckabee was in Israel this week as the guest of a Jewish organization that is working to reclaim Arab-dominated parts of Jerusalem.

During a visit to several small nascent Jewish neighborhoods on the eastern side of the capital, Huckabee told reporters that from a historical, legal and logical viewpoint, Jerusalem must remain undivided under Israeli rule. … Many in Israel saw Huckabee’s visit as the first step in a bid to be chosen as McCain’s running mate ….

How the Israel Lobby Took Control of U.S. Foreign Policy. (Snips)

… The influence-peddling process works like this. Candidates are summoned for in-depth AIPAC interviews. Those found sufficiently committed to Israel’s agenda are provided a list of donors likely to “max out” their campaign contributions. Or the process can be made even easier when AIPAC-approved candidates are given the name of a “bundler.”

Bundlers raise funds from the Diaspora and bundle those contributions to present them to the candidate. No quid pro quo need be mentioned. …

The US system of government is meant to ensure that members of the House represent the concerns of Americans who reside in Congressional districts—not a nationally dispersed network (a Diaspora) committed to advancing the agenda of a foreign nation. ….

US: Congressional/Senatorial or other US politician trips to Israel paid for by AIPAC (or affiliated groups).

    15) »One of the vehicles used by the Lobby to influence or buy the loyalty of legislators and US officials are paid junkets to Israel, where they are indoctrinated and propagandized by a bevy of Israeli politicians, and advocates of the Zionist state. Legislation to outlaw paid propaganda and vote buying junkets came before Congress but was stopped largely through the efforts of the Jewish Lobby. Clearly this is an area where corruption and foreign control over our foreign policy converge and is strongly susceptible to a campaign to moralize public policy.«

    Ethics pinch U.S. congressional travel.

… AIPAC is a pro-Israel force that spent $2.5 million to lobby Congress last year.

Ethics rules approved in 2007 forbid lawmakers from taking trips of more than two nights at the expense of corporations, unions and others that employ lobbyists. However, Congress set fewer limits on travel paid for by non-profits, such as AIPAC’s American Israel Education Foundation. …

he criticized “loopholes” that let non-profits with ties to lobbying groups continue underwriting longer trips. Those non-profits “can have enormous influence,” he said.

New Study Details Contacts Between Foreign Interests and Lawmakers.

Foreign interests spent $87 million lobbying Congress and executive branch officials last year, according to a new analysis compiled by the Sunlight Foundation and ProPublica.

The money helped finance an estimated 22,000 contacts directly with federal officials, lawmakers and their staffs, and even the media — all in the interest of influencing legislation, regulations and U.S. policy abroad. …

The Best Congress AIPAC Can Buy

…. Fully 13% of the entire US House of Representatives, 56 members, traveled to Israel in the largest AIPAC-sponsored fact-finding visit by American politicians ever conducted. ….

…. The August congressional junkets were paid for by the American Israel Education Foundation, which is a non-profit foundation that is part of AIPAC. The non-profit foundation part means that the trip to convince already acquiescent congressmen that Israel needs more aid and special treatment was more-or-less subsidized by the US taxpayer. …

Words like “disloyalty” come to mind immediately, but the AIPAC trips targeting congress are signs of a deeper problem. Many congressmen undoubtedly display knee-jerk support for Israel either because it is career enhancing or because they are afraid not to. ….

  18. worzzz Says:

The Lesson learned: Keep a close eye on our elected representatives’ travel to Israel. It is an good indicator of their servitude to AIPAC. AIPAC has had a major influence in goading America into the war on Iraq. It now urges a war on Iran.

Israel’s belligerence in the Middle-East is very costly to America. – Many of our elected representatives supported this belligerence in word and deed. – The result: Our present economic woes are partly the result of the high cost of the un-necessary Middle-East wars. –

Voters deserve to know about Israeli influence.

Thirteen percent of Congress travels to Israel; (Last month), 56 U.S. Congressmen traveled to Israel under the sponsorship of the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a powerful lobby in Washington.

Israeli news reported this event broadly, but our own media avoided nearly all coverage. After much searching, I found this Web site:

It lists the congressmen’s itinerary by name and date. The purpose of the trip is listed as “educational.”

AIPAC is highly effective in influencing U.S. foreign policy. It is claimed that without AIPAC’s determination, the Iraq war would not have taken place. Presently, AIPAC is urging war on Iran.

I assume that the visiting congressmen underwent a strong measure of “indoctrination” in support of war and of Israel’s aggressive settlement policy. Compliance is usually rewarded with generous funding during elections.

Billions of taxpayer dollars flow to Israel every year because Congress is stacked with members favored by AIPAC.

    Voters deserve to know.

The first congressional junket to Israel.

…. AZC folded lobbying efforts into AIPAC, which continues to resist registering as an Israeli foreign agent, despite its office in Jerusalem and close coordination with the Israeli government. After the AZC showdown, there was a movement to toughen FARA to encompass offshore lobbying activities directed at Congress members.

FARA instead gradually fell into malaise. The DOJ prosecutes only the most blatant violations and disenfranchised violators. Soon, the FARA enforcement unit marketed itself not as a key public nexus of foreign lobbying disclosure but as a “solution provider” helping to keep foreign lobbyists out of trouble.

Today, AIPAC’s nonprofit affiliate conducts lobbying tours much in the style of Isaiah Kenen — no scrutiny, no accounting for funds spent or promises made, and completely beyond the reach of American constituents sitting patiently in town halls across the nation, eagerly awaiting the return of their representatives. ….
