Swindling us into War again

If Israel takes military action against Iran

Instead of a public discussion there has been a belligerent press, which makes demagogic use of statements that intensify the message of the politics of fear. These include expressions such as “Iran is galloping toward a bomb” and a “second Holocaust” that Israel must prevent. Such discourse creates a feeling that if Iran is not attacked, and soon, we have no choice but to accept a nuclear Iran. …

public discussion in Israel about a nuclear Iran is simplistic, inadequate, confused and confusing. It reflects to some degree our own biases. We come from a culture of national security in which nuclear opacity has been exploited to the hilt to create a specific model of deterrence. The result is that when we look at Iran we see ourselves: how we would behave in a similar situation. But Iran is not Israel exactly, and the Israeli experience does not necessarily reflect Iran’s behavior. On the contrary, it leads to systematic errors when making assessments. ….

What War with Iran Means. – Neocons swindling us into an unnecessary War again.

… As to who starts it, we know the answer. Teheran has not started a war in memory and is not going to launch a suicide attack on a superpower with thousands of nuclear weapons. As with Iraq in 2003, the war will be launched by the United States against a nation that did not attack us — to strip it of weapons it does not have. …

If Iran has secret plants working on nuclear weapons, why have we not been told where, and demanded that U.N. inspectors be let in? Why did 16 U.S. intelligence agencies, three years ago, tell us they did not exist and Iran gave up its drive for a nuclear weapon in 2003? …

The ‘Center for Strategic and International Studies’ published a new study entitled “Options in Dealing with Iran’s Nuclear Program.” ….

Israel discusses two possible scenarios: One is an Israeli attack with conventional weapons by planes, and by the launching of Jericho ground-to-ground missiles, ballistic missiles and missiles launched from Dolphin submarines. Another scenario is using nuclear warheads to attack deeply buried nuclear facilities in Iran. …

The words ‘Attack’ and ‘Defense’ have been corrupted in modern usage. America’s Department of Defense has mostly aggressive attributes. Similarly, Israel uses the word ‘defense’ to hide its endless attacks on its neighbors.

And so it appears, thievery, destruction, killing, and rape, have always been the way to go. Soldiers are admired and honored for their craft. The victims are mostly innocent civilians.

Netanyahu To Obama: We Won’t Halt Building In Jerusalem.

Obama offered Netanyahu a gentlemen’s agreement on Jerusalem.

…. As long as Jews aren’t building in Sheikh Jarrakh or Ramat Shlomo, America couldn’t care less was Israel says or doesn’t say over a Jerusalem construction freeze.

Washington understands that Netanyahu can’t afford to admit, not even obliquely, that he is treating Jerusalem like the West Bank settlements, where building has been banned until September. As far as the America’s is concerned, Netanyahu can run and tell his friends that what goes for Tel Aviv goes for Jerusalem – as long Obama officials don’t wake the next morning to newspaper reports that Israel has approved a new building program in the Holy City.

What Obama has demanded from Netanyahu is in essence a ‘gentlemen’s agreement’ that Israel will not launch new building tenders in East Jerusalem as long as proximity talks with the Palestinians continue. Obama needs this commitment in order to convince Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas that that he is not playing into the hands of Hamas. …

An Act Of War. by Congressman Ron Paul

April 23, 2010 “United States House of Representatives” — Mr. Speaker I rise in opposition to this motion to instruct House conferees on HR 2194, the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act, and I rise in strong opposition again to the underlying bill and to its Senate version as well. I object to this entire push for war on Iran, however it is disguised. Listening to the debate on the Floor on this motion and the underlying bill it feels as if we are back in 2002 all over again: the same falsehoods and distortions used to push the United States into a disastrous and unnecessary one trillion dollar war on Iraq are being trotted out again to lead us to what will likely be an even more disastrous and costly war on Iran. The parallels are astonishing. ….

According to the entire US Intelligence Community, Iran is not currently working on a nuclear weapons program. These are facts, and to point them out does not make one a supporter or fan of the Iranian regime. Why is the U.S. helping finance ‘Iron Dome’? (NCT – Leon Smith; 8-22-10)

As this nation’s debt spirals up and up by the minute, politicians continue to give U.S. taxpayer dollars away as though it is Monopoly money.

The latest among many giveaways is the $205 million to accelerate development of an “Iron Dome” system to protect Israel from possible rocket attacks from the Gaza Strip. This $205 million is approximately half of the total cost, coming to a whopping $410 million (“U.S.: Rocket shield should work,” July 17). This free money is in addition to the $3 billion free U.S. taxpayer dollars given to Israel each year in the form of grants.

Why this massive and continual dollar giveaway? The North County Times article continues by mentioning that this is an “election-year message” aimed at the many Jewish voters that Obama remains committed to Israel’s security.
Israel has the most powerful military in that region that could level Gaza easily if rocket attacks begin and continue. If they fear these attacks, why don’t they build and finance their own “iron dome”?

To me, it’s a national disgrace that votes can be and are bought with billions of dollars that U.S. doesn’t have, just to re-elect a politician.

    Israel never really wanted peace.

Peace may be a dream – but it is not our dream. The time has come to recognize the fact that Israel uses the rhetoric of peace, but does very little on the practical level toward achieving it. Anyone still clinging to the axiom that “we’ll leave no stone unturned” needs to take a good look in the mirror. Is Israel truly laboring with determination and persistence to reach peace?

The announcement by both the United States and Israel that the efforts to renew direct negotiations failed, less than six months after being launched in Washington, is direct proof that Israel is not doing so. This country deserves most of the blame: History will not forgive those who considered the issue of extending the construction moratorium in the settlements, even for three months, more important than continuing the talks and reaching a diplomatic solution. …..
